Our zebrafish facility maintains over 100 different lines, including wildtypes, transgenics, and mutants. The wildtypes and commonly used lines are owned by the ZCF and available to our users, while other lines can be readily distributed between researchers on an MTA basis.

We maintain the following wildtype and commonly used lines:

AB

TU

  • The Tuebingen strain originated from a Tuebingen pet shop. It was cleaned up to remove lethal embryonic mutations from the background before being used by Sanger Institute for the zebrafish sequencing project.
  • Phenotype: stripped, short fins
  • ZFIN_TU line http://zfin.org/action/genotype/view/ZDB-GENO-990623-3

ABxTL

  • The ABxTL line is derived from in house crossing of two lines: AB and TL

TL

  • Tupfel long fin, homozygous for leot1 and lofdt2. leot1 (also known as tup) is a recessive mutation causing spotting in adult fish, whereas lofdt2 is a dominant viable mutation causing long fins.
  • Phenotype: spotted, long fins
  • This is not the line used in the Sanger Institute zebrafish sequencing project.
  • ZFIN_TL line http://zfin.org/action/genotype/view/ZDB-GENO-990623-2
